CARL GALIOTOFAIA, HOKCarl Galioto is a senior principal at HOK, managing principal of the New York office, and a member of HOK’s board of directors. He has over 30 years of industry-leading expertise in the design and implementation of large, complex projects, including such high-rise and super-high-rises as 1 World Trade Center, 7 World Trade Center, 7 Times Square, Lotte Tower in Seoul; and in China, Evergrande Tower in Zhengzhou and Greenland Tower in Dalian. His experience includes numerous aviation and health sciences projects. Using building science to better design aesthetically, functionally, and from the standpoints of sustainability and life safety, Galioto was influential in changing the New York City Building Code after 9/11. He helped analyze the NIST investigation of the WTC collapse and translated those findings into model building codes. To innovate sustainable solutions, he co-founded the Center for Architecture, Science and Ecology at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. At HOK he is responsible for firm-wide project delivery, including HOK’s virtual design and construction initiative: buildingSMART.
